Page 2 ...of the said premises onto the curate of the Church att Bolton on Swale for ever the sum of twenty pounds by two halfe yearly payments, upon this condition: that the said curate does and shall preach a sermon in the said church att Bolton every Sunday in the afternoon throughout the year my will and intention being for the advancement of the, glory of my most merciful redeemer and giveing religious and well disposed Christians a further opportunity in the performance of their devotions, and also that the said curate doe and shall also in the said Church preach a sermon or read one of the Homilys appoynted to be, read every Holiday in the year, whereon service is appoynted to be performed by order of the Church of England unless he be prevented in discharge of his duty in either of these by some just and Iawfull impediment to be approved by my said trustees and their successors for ever. Then I doe order and appoynt my said trustees or the more, part of them and their successors for ever, after deduction made for this trust, doe and shall pay the remainder and overplus of the dues and profits of my said estate four pounds per annum only excepted unto a schoolmaster, which I doe hereby order and appoynt to be elected by my said trustees or the more part of them within the space of twelve kallender months next after my decease to teach a free school in the Town of Scorton where I now dwell, for ever.

I do order the said schoolmaster for the time being shall if he think fitting, have my now dwelling house in Scorton, with the orchards, garden, and appurtences belonging, to dwell in and to teach school in, or in case a school house shall be thought more proper by my said trusteesto be erected then the charge thereof to be payed and defrayed out of the money arising from my said estate and hereby devised for the benefitt of the said master and after the death of my said dear wife doe order and appoynt that the sume of forty pounds to her devised during her natural life shall goe unto and be paid the said schoollmaster, and I doe order and appoynt that the said schoollmaster shall teach and instruct all such boys as shall be sent to or .......
